This time for the Unit Standard 18758. In this case I had to do some teaching and couldn't just run with this course as entirely online. The standard is

Converting DVD VOB files to iMovie Compatible format PDF Print E-mail

We are making some videos and putting together some slideshows. We have converted some old video to DVD using a combined DVD video unit that Nana has. It saves the files in DVD Vob format which iMovie does not recognise.

To convert the files into a format that iMovie can work with I downloaded Handbrake. A great open source software program that also allows you to convert to a variety of formats, iPod and more.

Lego robotics is a great way to get students interested in programming. There is a unit standard in New Zealand worth 5 credits at level 3 and this article describes how I have taught this standard. It includes assessment tasks and marking schedules for this assessment.

Cyber safety. It's becoming more and more important in schools. With parents not really understanding computers they are not learning about these things at home. I am currently working on a year seven Cyber safety module and have found some great links and resources.

Hectors World is aimed at more primary students and the credits etc are a bit annoying but it's a fun way to get the message out. It is produced by NetSafe who have loads of links and resources for both teachers and school managers. This site/organisation has made New Zealand a world leader in Cyber safety.
